Pacquiao Won’t Let Mosley Pull a Morales
If this past weekend was any indication that ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley could somehow turn back the hands of time and give the Pound for Pound king a run for his money, then Manny Pacquiao and the rest of his team are simply telling the truth, more specifically Freddie Roach, that Shane Mosley is still a dangerous and worthy opponent despite his less than stellar performances in his previous two fights. In case you missed out on what happened last Saturday night, Erik ‘El Terrible’ Morales gave the fight of his life against hard hitting Argentinian wrecking machine Marcos ‘Chino’ Maidana – a performance that which proved to the world that legends like Morales always have that ‘one good fight’ left in them.
This makes the Pacquiao-Mosley fight that much more interesting to watch. Can Shane pull a Morales and summon the Sugar Shane of old? Let’s be fair, Shane Mosley isn’t as shopworn as ‘El Terrible’ is despite nearly being 39 years old. Boxing isn’t an old man’s game, but Mosley might not be as far off from peak form as we have originally thought him to be. Mosley has a history of showing up for big fights (think Oscar Dela Hoya and Antonio Margarito). He performs better when the odds are stacked against him.
Yes I know what you’re thinking, what about the Mayweather fight? Well once again, to be fair, even if you get up for a Mayweather fight it’s really tough to look good against him. Mayweather after all is one of the best defensive fighters in the history of the sport and a fighter with his technical ability who solely relies on playing defense without mounting any sort of physical attack that causes knockouts is sure to give even the greatest fighters in history a multitude of problems. It’s hard to look good against Mayweather considering Mosley’s nervousness and jumpiness which also didn’t help but rather added to the handicap of course along with Mayweather’s constant running.
However, Pacquiao is an entire different beast of his own.
Pacquiao’s style appears to be so simple. He seems to be all just about speed and angles and volume punching, but he’s more than that really. It’s the footwork and cat-like reflexes he has that he sports along with his natural born ability to fight that makes him so difficult. I think even if Mosley would be able to resurrect the Mosley of past, that it would merely provide an interesting and competitive matchup, one in which would still have Manny Pacquiao as the victor. But you never know in this sport really, it’s all very unpredictable such as the case of Morales and Maidana. I don’t think anyone can beat Pacquiao at this stage to be honest but then again no one thought Morales would last twelve rounds with Maidana either.
Any which way you have it, let’s hope the best Shane Mosley shows up on May 7th and not some washed up has been just trying to make an extra buck. I want a fight. With Pacquiao, you always get one but Mosley better be bringing it to him.
