Pacman confident, flies to US
MANILA, Philippines - Manny Pacquiao left for Los Angeles last night, oozing with confidence and saying he’s got Shane Mosley all figured out heading to their May 7 showdown in Las Vegas.
“Pinag-aralan ko na siya nang husto (I’ve studied him thoroughly),” said the 32-year-old Filipino icon who will stake his WBO welterweight crown against the American.
“Lahat ng kilos niya, kung paano siya gumalaw, lumusob at umatras, pinag-aralan ko na (All his moves, how he attacks, how he retreats, I’ve figured out),” he said.
Pacquiao, as usual, refused to make any prediction regarding the fight. The 40-year-old Mosley has never been knocked out before, and Pacquiao has the chance to be the first.
“You know me. I never make any prediction regarding my fight. I don’t look for a knockout. But I train hard and when it comes, it comes,” said the fighting congressman from Sarangani.
Pacquiao trained three weeks in Baguio under Freddie Roach, and was scheduled to leave last night for Los Angeles where he will spend the next four weeks training at the Wild Card Gym.
In a well-attended send-off party at the Pacific Lounge of the Pan Pacific Hotel, Pacquiao took some last-minute appointments, still performing his duties as a congressman.
“There are too many things to do. We just had the ground-breaking for the hospital we’re going to build in Sarangani,” he said during the dinner attended by close to 200 persons.
In Los Angeles, Pacquiao will step it up his training.
He said the number of sparring rounds per day will increase, with more sparring partners being lined up by Roach. He’d logged around 10 rounds of sparring last week in Baguio.
At last night’s send-off party were Pacquiao’s wife, Jinkee, their daughters Princess and Queen, some of his partymates, and political figures like Senator Manny Villar and former Environments Secretary Lito Atienza.
“I’m confident,” said Pacquiao.
