Shane Mosley: “I will walk away after four or five more fights”
Even though boxing fans all over the world want to see Manny Pacquiao fight one person and one person only, they will have to settle for “Sugar” Shane Mosley against the Pacman this May. Since Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao were unable to come to an agreement, “Sugar” Shane Mosley stepped up and took on the challenge of fighting one of the sports best fighters. While Mosley is always a tough opponent and one of the best welterweights in the world, after his two performances last year against Mayweather and Sergio Mora, I find it hard to believe that he will finally be the one to end Pacquiao’s 13 fight winning streak.
Shane Mosley joined WFAN in New York with Boomer and Carton to talk about when he plans on leaving the fight game, what one fight he would like to be able to do over throughout his career, and what he predicts for his fight against Manny Pacquiao.
When he thinks he will walk away from the fight game:
“I will walk away after four or five more fights. There’s a couple more fights. I do the rematch with Manny, get the rematch with Floyd (Mayweather) (Host: Will he fight again?) I think so. I have (Miguel) Cotto and if (Antonio) Margarito wants to do an extra one. So I’m reserving fights for a couple of people then I’m getting out.”
On what fight he would like to have back throughout his career:
“The first time that I lost when I fought Vernon Forrest. I was just like how did I lose the fight like that. (Host: You were 38-0 going into that fight right?) Yeah 38-0 and that was the first time I had my first loss so I couldn’t believe it. Being on the ground and fighting that way was unbelievable.”
On the notoriety that he is getting with the show leading up to his fight with Pacquiao:
“That’s a great idea that Bob Arum came up with. Being on regular TV I think it’s 114 million viewers that are viewing this.”
What he predicts with his fight against Pacquiao:
“I predict an exciting and great fight. I think Pacquiao’s style is suitable for me because he’s not going to be running around and trying to outbox me. He’s going to try and knock me out and I love those kinds of fights where I can get a chance to use my own punching power on a guy. I love to pound away and he’s the same type of fighter so it’s going to be exciting.”
